student videos

Eligibility

Any registered undergraduate and/or graduate student of the University of California (“UC”) is eligible to submit an entry into the World Food Day Video Challenge (“Challenge”). Such students must show proof of Fall quarter or semester 2016 enrollment at a UC school.

How to Enter

Beginning 12:00:01 a.m. Pacific Time on August 7, 2016 and ending at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time on September 7, 2016 (“Submission Period”), you can enter the Challenge by following the instructions on the World Food Day Video Challenge webpage, available at: www.foodvideos.ucdavis.edu.

Submissions must be in English only. Limit one (1) submission per person for the entire Submission Period. Any attempt by any person to submit more than one submission will void all entries by that person, and that person will be disqualified.

Submission Requirements/Restrictions

By submitting a submission, each entrant (i) warrants that the submission is an original one created by the entrant, and (ii) grants the World Food Center at UC Davis and its designees the perpetual, unlimited, nonexclusive, transferable, worldwide and irrevocable right to modify, create derivative works of, edit, post, publish and/or otherwise use the submission and all elements embodied therein, including any names and likenesses, in any manner and in any and all media now known or hereafter developed, without further compensation, notification or permission.

A submission must:

  1. be entrant’s own original work that has not been submitted to any other third party, including any other contest;
  2. be available for viewing on a social media platform (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
  3. be no more than 3 minutes in total runtime;
  4. be owned by entrant;
  5. be nonconfidential; and
  6. have been legally created.

If the video includes other individuals or was filmed by an individual other than entrant, they (or, if minors, their parents or legal guardians) must provide permission to the entrant to submit the submission in the Challenge. UC’s World Food Center reserves the right to require proof of permissions in a form acceptable to the World Food Center. Failure to provide such proof may result in disqualification.

Submissions that do not meet the submission criteria set forth above, contain prohibited content, or are otherwise deemed by the World Food Center, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate, obscene, or not in keeping with the World Food Center’s image will be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

Following the end of the Submission Period, all eligible submissions received by the World Food Center will be judged by a panel of qualified judges based on the following judging criteria and percentages:

  • Originality (20%)
  • Creativity (20%)
  • Quality of audio and video production (20%)
  • Scientific accuracy (20%)
  • Overall presentation (20%)

The submission with the highest score, as determined by the judging panel, will be deemed the First Place Winner subject to compliance with these Terms and Conditions. In the event of a tie, the submission with the highest score in the scientific accuracy and overall presentation of the judging criteria from among the tying submissions will be deemed the First Place Winner. If there is still a tie, the score received for creativity, and finally quality of the audio and video production will be used to break the tie. The odds of winning a prize depend on the number of submissions received, and the quality of an entrant’s submission as compared to other submissions submitted in the relevant Submission Period as determined by the judging panel.

The First Place Winner submission will receive the following:

  • Registration, hotel accommodation, and air travel to attend the 2016 Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium (Des Moines, Iowa, Oct. 12-14) for the annual World Food Prize conference for up to three (3) team members and up to two (2) nights of accommodation

Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitations or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above may not apply to you. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Terms and Conditions, or the rights and obligations of the entrants and sponsors in connection with this Challenge, will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of California or any other jurisdiction) that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of California.

The sponsors to the Challenge reserve the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Challenge, or any part of it, for any reason or no reason including, if any fraud, technical failures, human error or any other factor impairing the integrity of the Challenge, as determined by sponsors in their sole discretion. The sponsors’ failure to enforce any term of these Terms and Conditions will not constitute a waiver of that provision.

Binding Agreement

These Terms and Conditions are binding upon all submissions and finalists as well as their heirs, legal representatives and assigns. If the finalist is under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must expressly consent to the provisions of these Terms and Conditions.
