Climate-Smart at UC Davis

The campus is advancing science-based solutions for sustainably feeding a changing and growing planet.

UC Davis faculty have been advancing climate-smart agriculture since the first global scientific conference in 2011, hosting the next conference in 2013 and then sponsoring the most recent one in 2015. The campus has also been a founding member of the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture, a network of 144 institutions, organizations, governments and businesses. 

Across the campus, the challenge of climate change permeates disciplines and departments. Researchers, alongside California’s farmers, ranchers and fishers, have been probing this complex environmental puzzle, exploring ways to both reduce agriculture’s emissions and adapt our food systems to the varied impacts, while sustainably increasing yields.

The World Food Center is helping to share this knowledge through new and stronger connections with international governments like the Netherlands; with state agencies in food, agriculture and air quality; and with leading research institutions invested in climate-smart approaches, like Wageningen University, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Bank Agriculture Group.
