Cristina Davis, a UC Davis professor in mechanical engineering, took home the Best Newcomer Award at the World Agritech Investment Summit on March 16-17, in San Francisco. As a technology innovator, Davis took part in the conference’s Pitch Battle, where she presented to a panel of investors her five-minute snapshot of XTB Laboratories, the startup she co-founded. The World Food Center worked directly with the summit organizers to connect Davis to this opportunity. Davis also serves as a valuable resource on the World Food Center’s faculty advisory committee.
The World Food Center was active in many other ways with the summit as well. Josette Lewis moderated a panel discussion with industry leaders on the topic of climate and sustainability. The World Food Center and UC Davis researchers also hosted a private tour of the Oakville Research Station, including Professor David Block’s precision irrigation project.
Agtech innovation is a core focus of the World Food Center, as it builds a new consortium on Next Generation Precision Irrigation & Nutrient Management Systems.
